About Karen Winterholer "In every stage of my life, art has been the happy place I would go to, whether the way of getting there was with crayons and coloring book, watercolors, or pen-and-ink...And now, in this stage of my life, photography is how I go there!" Karen Winterholer has had a love of art her whole life beginning with crayons, then watercolors, and pen-and-ink drawings. When she was a child growing up in Noank, Connecticut, her artist father taught her much about composition and color, took her to art museums and to the studio of his mentor, artist and Rhode Island School of Design professor, Harve Stein who encouraged her in her artistic endeavors. Her love of art was the reason she took art courses in college while studying for a degree in elementary education. She exhibited at outdoor art shows with her dad and did commissioned work at college for extra spending money. Her interest in digital photography as an outlet for her creativity evolved into a passion. The beauty of the New England countryside, its old buildings and botanicals, became the subjects of her photos. Karen taught elementary school and operated a bed and breakfast at the family's home in Goshen until making the decision to give her full attention to photography and her business, Maia Designs in 2008. She has been a juried member of the Hillsborough Area Artisans, a member the Monadnock Area Artists, the NH Society of Photographic Artists, and NH Made. Her fine art prints have been exhibited in juried events and galleries throughout the state; her unique jewelry is carried by several New Hampshire shops and has been featured in Kearsarge Magazine. Her photography includes scenes from her travels to regions throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia, but her heart will always belong to New England where she makes her home.
My Studio and Gallery When I'm not out shooting pictures, I can be found in my home-studio in the foothills of Mt. Sunapee. The area is part of the Lake Sunapee Region and offers every type of scenery a photographer could ask for. Some of the most beautiful are just outside my door!!
